18 to 21st June 2007 - European Parliament, Strasbourg - "The STOA Experience" - exhibition celebrating 20 years of research in science and technology for policy making

The STOA (Scientific Technology Options Assessment) of the European Parliament is celebrating this year its 20th Anniversary. On this occasion, STOA is preparing an exhibition to be held from 18 to 21 June 2007 in Strasbourg under the patronage of Mr. Hans-Gert Pöttering, President of the European Parliament.

The STOA Experience will showcase STOA's activity and shed light on its recent achievements. This will include studies on a variety of themes, from the future of transport and alternative energy sources to nanotechnology and global human health. The exhibition will present the latest European technological innovations, and will provide a framework for several events: launching of the MEPs-Scientist pairing scheme, workshops and forums. DG-INFSO D4 will contribute to the exhibition with 5 RFID research projects and live demonstations.

The initial phase of the public consultation on RFID policy in Europe ended with the release of the Communication by Mrs. Viviane Reding, Commissioner for Information Society and Media, at the CeBIT fair in Hannover on March 15, 2007. The Communication is accompanied with a Commission Staff Working Document containing the analysis of the online consultation which took place in 2006.

Due to their high relevance for the ongoing public discussion the contents of the corresponding "RFID Consultation Website" are archived by the European coordination action CE RFID (www.rfid-in-action.eu) since March 15, 2007.

EU RFID FORUM 2007, March 13th and 14th 2007, Brussels

The EU RFID Forum 2007 that took place on March 13 and 14, 2007 was attended by more than 300 participants. Speakers included policy makers, academics from top universities and industry leaders from all around the world. The forum featured an application and research track of sessions.

German Presidency Conference on RFID - Berlin, June 25-26th 2007

German Ministry of Economics and Technology, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Research and the European Commission, will organize a conference on RFID under the framework of German Presidency in the UE. More details here.

The European Commission organised in Brussels on 16 October 2006 a final conference on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to close the series of consultation initiatives which Mrs Viviane Reding, Commissioner for the Information and Media, announced at CeBIT 2006. This conference was opened by the commissioner, and it featured European Commission officials, Members of the European Parliament, and relevant stakeholders from industry, government and civil society who have been involved in the European debate about RFID.
